I’m not sure I’ve seen 93 this cheap, ever.

Probably just have 93 and 87, the rest is a blend.

There’s a lot of 4-pumps around here, but a 5-pump is strange. 88 octane is also very unusual. It’s usually 87-89-91-92-93 or 87-89-90-91-93. Three pump are mainly 87-89-93 now (instead of 87-89-91 and the occasional 93 4th pump) , which is annoying because my Audi runs 91.

Yes, that I know (
I think every gas station
only has 87 and 93 and blend the rest)
, but still, having 5 different combinations isn’t common. Usually 3 (87/89/93), occasionally 4 (Sunoco has 87/89/91/93)

They must have demand or think they will. I don’t see the logic either, but then I don’t run a gas station.

The only 4-pumps I’ve seen are Wawa and Sunoco. I heard that Wawa gas is Sunoco, which would make sense since they have the 4 choices
. Everyone else is jsut the three (87/89/93)

And no ethanol blends?

Well, they all have the same amount of ethanol. It’s all E10 AFAIK
But there’s no E85 around. I’ve never seen a gas station with E85 or anything beyond the normal E10

Wawa buys from a couple of suppliers, Chevron is the main one, don't believe Sunoco actually produces anything anymore, think they're just a middleman wholesale distributor now.

The buried lede is it’s still just $2.31 for 93, which is insane. It’s usually over $2.80 in CT and downstate NY it’s just a question of “ how far over”

Agree, though I’m more curious to understand if the sales data even supports offering those choices. Most retailers of any size are pretty savvy these days, and if they have the equipment to offer it I say more power to them.
For July the rack price spread between regular and premium averaged $0.35/gal. Assuming premium is 93 and regula r is 87 (as listed above), that is about $0.0583 per octane point at the rack.
Using his retail prices it is about $0.053 per octane point.
Interesting.

yeah the low price is cool,
but the 5 combinations is more interesting

Wo
w that’s surprising! I didn’t know Wawa was Chevron! That is a surprise because there are no Chevron stations
in any state that has a Wawa, except Florida.

My local family run gas station has 93 octane at $2.29, 87 octane for $2.09 and diesel at $2.29.

Yeah, they’re missing the 87.5 and 88.821 octane.

They buy from a bunch of suppliers, it all gets trucked to Wawa's own tank farm and shipped out to stores from there. In the Philadelphia area, I believe Chevron is their largest single source - they were also buying a lot from Philadelphia Energy Solutions, but, since they closed their Marcus Hook refinery, they're probably not as much of a player now.

There’s really only two. 87 and 92. The rest are just marketing numbers/prices. /s

I remember when mid / premium were $.10 premiums. Changed really back during the like ‘08 gas crisis and never went back.

I’m thinking it was earlier than that, but I was living in California at the time, which does not compare to most states in fuel pricing.
Most gas station around here have a 50 cents difference between 87 and 91 or 93, whichever is their highest octane.

That’s it???? NYC is about $. 60, Westchester and Fairfield County is about $.75-85 since European cars have a considerable market share in those areas. Might have been $.15/$.15 before 08 but it really got totally untethered after that.

I’m not surprised NYC and surrounding areas would be higher. Wealthy counties will always be subjected to higher prices, whether it’s gas or groceries.

Oh definitely, it’s just different than coming in high on 87 and building from there

It’s at least .60 and maybe .80 around here. Also, who runs 88?
